NEW ASH GREEN: Benefit cheat admits falsely claiming more than £5,000 NEW ASH GREEN: Benefit cheat admits falsely claiming more than £5,000

A BENEFIT cheat has admitted falsely claiming more than £5,000.

Zoe Yaxley, of Caling Croft, New Ash Green, was sentenced to an 18 month conditional discharge at Dartford Magistrates’ Court on September 16 after pleading guilty to three charges of benefit fraud.

The court heard the 30-year-old had failed to inform the authorities she had two jobs between August 2007 and July 2008.

She illegally claimed £3,821.20 income support, £633.93 housing benefit and £740.54 council tax benefit, totalling £5,195.67.

Sevenoaks District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions investigated Yaxley, and both are now seeking the repayment of the falsely claimed benefits.

The council’s cabinet member with responsibility for finance Councillor Brian Ramsay said: "We are determined to do all we can to protect tax payers' money by catching benefit cheats.”

To report suspected benefit fraud, call the council's confidential hotline at any time on 01732 227445.
