A DVD has been produced about different faiths as part of a Government-funded cohesion drive.
Schools and faith groups are being sent the “Images of Faith In Wycombe” DVD, produced under the Government’s “community cohesion” programme.
The film, introduced by Bucks Free Press editor Steve Cohen, features pupils from Wye Valley School, Bourne End playing a boarding game called “Diversity”.
A council statement said: “The game helps build understanding about various world faiths and features seven of the key faiths represented within Wycombe’s local community.
“The DVD introduces the core beliefs and practices of these seven faiths, Baha’I Faith, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, using personal stories of local people who were asked how they would present their faith. “People featured in the DVD describe their faith and how it influences their day to day lives.
“The result is a personal and informative anthology which will gives a greater insight into some of the key features of other religions and cultures within our community.”
The project – accompanied by a book – was paid for with £8,000 from the Government’s “community cohesion” fund handed to Wycombe District Council.
This was given to Wycombe Sharing of Faiths and Wycombe Race Equality Council and produced 500 copies. Two copies will be sent to each school.
The council has also been given £284,000 for a sister programme called “preventing violent extremism” after 2006 terror raids in High Wycombe (see links, below).
The film is also on sale for £15.99. These copies have been funded by the two groups and not the community cohesion fund, said Wycombe Sharing of Faith’s Anne Bowker.
