THE challenge of a lifetime will see Dawn Evans, of Marlow, sailing around the world for charity.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will take her on a 35,000 mile voyage, crossing both Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and will keep her at sea for ten months.
Dawn, who works in sales and marketing at Oracle, has undertaken a challenge each year for charity, from trekking in the Himalayas for MIND to climbing Kilimanjaro. But as a novice sailor, this challenge will be her most daunting. She joins an amateur crew with an experienced skipper at the helm.
The trip will raise funds for Helen & Douglas House at Oxford, which provides respite and end of life care for children and young adults throughout the region.
Dawn was reminded of how fragile life can be when the colleague who had introduced her to sailing passed away unexpectedly a few months ago. She said: “It was the idea of making the most of the time you have that encouraged me not only to take on the ultimate challenge, but to do it in aid of Helen & Douglas House; the ethos of the charity being to make the most of life, even when that life is short.”
Dawn will be present to lend her support when Sir Steve Redgrave opens the new Helen & Douglas House charity shop in Marlow on July 13.
The sailing race begins on September 13. If you would like to support Dawn’s efforts in raising funds for Helen & Douglas House, visit www.dawn-Clipper0910.com
