PEOPLE caught throwing litter out of their cars could face fines of £100 thanks to new penalties agreed by London Councils.
The fines have been agreed following a London-wide consultation with residents and local authorities.
London Councils says the consultation revealed “strong views” about reducing littering from cars, with many respondents saying the form of littering was not only unsightly but dangerous.
Chairman of London Councils' transport and environment committee Councillor Mike Fisher said: "These fines send a clear message to the minority of Londoners who do not respect their local environment and treat our streets like their own personal dustbin.
"The issue of throwing litter from cars is something that has proved particularly emotive and this is why we have set the fines at such a high level.”
The penalty will now need to be agreed by the Secretary of State before being given the go ahead.
