How could Paul Goodman claim £900-£1000 per month for a second home when Wycombe is only 30 miles from Westminster? No wonder he resigned.

Well done pumpkin.

You've really shown yourself to have a great understanding of the demands of working in the House of Commons.

I personally have no idea, but I do understand that I want my local MP to do the best possible job there and if that means avoiding an hour plus commute (each way) then I'm happy to pay for it.

Its not a 9-5 job you know.

Dominic Grieve (Beaconsfield inc Flackwell) has some expenses I would really question.

1) Gardener
2) Virgin Media Services
3) rental of a watercooler

He also appears to have an addiction to ginger shortbread and ginger cookies.

Wycombenewbie - you seem to have forgotten that our MPs main residence is a house in London, so he has easy access to the House of Commons from his main residence.

Most MPs attend their constituencies on Fridays and surely our MP could afford the 40 minute train ride in terms of both time and money. If he had a late night in Wycombe I am sure no one would begrudge a taxi fare back home to London. I suspect that the total cost of all those taxi fares and train fares might not come up to the total allowance for a second home.

"2) Virgin Media Services"

sounds like a pórn site to me...I think questions need to be asked!

Exactly what does the Parliamentary office at home look like. I will ask at my work for a "Maharani chair" to try and get that parliamentary look. I have a feeling they might not see that as a valid business expense though!

Why am I paying for your third home? says...

Cheryl Gillan's monthly mortgage interest claims start at £1148 per month in 2004/5 then steadily rise through £1235, £1318, £1400, to reach £1500 in 2007/8 before two final claims in 2007/8 of £1400 and £1200. Claims higher than this for the last 2 months would of course have taken her over the annual 23k maximum.

MPs can only claim for mortgage interest not the repayment part of the mortgage. The maximum annual second home allowance claim possible rose from £20,902 in 2004/5 to £23,057 in 2007/8. According to figures published on the Commons website, during these four years Cheryl Gillan claimed all but £4 of the maximum permitted.

What justification is there for claiming 59k of taxpayers money over 4 years for a third home in Battersea when both her other homes are within easy commuting distance of Westminster? I can't think of any...

My point was that a second home allowance should be for MPs whose constituencies are too far away to commute, which would be a reasonable expense. Not a top-up to everyone salaries.

I don't understand how Paul Goodman can justify having 3 mobile phone contracts each coating us hundreds of pounds every month. No wonder he jumped before he was pushed!
