Triple award success for Capel Manor at Chelsea Flower Show

STUDENTS from Capel Manor College scooped three medals at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Three gardens designed by the students, including one by those based in the college's headquarters in Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, won Silver Gilt medals at the prestigious show.

'The Cottage Garden' was recreated for the show by Capel Manor's designer and senior gardener Julie Phipps and the director of estates Nicholas Evans.

Over the past four years, the original Cottage Garden at Capel Manor College, in Enfield, has been visited by royalty including the Queen, Prince Edward and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

It was opened by Peter Seabrook MBE and Charles Notcutt OBE on May 18.

Phillipa O'Brien, Capel Manor's lecturer in horticulture, won a Silver Gilt with a composting garden created by Capel Manor's Gunnersby Centre team. Phillipa O'Brien and the Gunnersby team also won a medal for the design and construction of a show garden for the British Beekeepers Association.

Capel Manor College is one of the largest providers of horticultural education and training and has won several quality awards in the past.

The college's chief executive, Steve Dowbiggin OBE, said: "Most people exhibit at Chelsea as the pinnacle of their career. That our students can achieve these accolades while they are still training is outstanding."
