WORK has begun to build a new recycling centre at High Heavens in High Wycombe.

The Clay Lane, Booker facility will take six months to complete and will process about 15,000 tonnes of waste a year.

Bosses say it will improve traffic flows around the site.

It will take materials including paper, card, tyres, batteries, trade and garden waste.

The facility will remain open to the public while work is taking place.

Nigel Sims, interim head of planning and environment at Buckinghamshire County Council, said: “The new Household Waste Recycling Centre at High Heavens is going to be a fantastic facility for residents in the High Wycombe and surrounding areas.

“The centre will be three times the size of the existing site, offering a wider range of recycling facility for residents.

“The site is also going to have an improved layout which will maximise traffic flows and ease congestion issues.

“We hope this new facility will encourage residents to recycling more, enabling us to meet landfill reduction targets and avoid council taxpayers having to pay up to £150 a tonne fines if we fail to meet them.”
