A tea party is to be held to celebrate the winners of flower themed poster competition for this year’s Richmond Borough in Bloom scheme.

Invitations have been sent out to 16 children, whose paintings won or were runners up in the compeititon, to attend the party with Richmond’s mayor next Thursday.

The winning design, a painting of red tulips, was created by Clara Pillitz, 12, a pupil at Teddington School.

It will be featured on promotional posters for the Borough in Bloom gardening competition.

Several thousand paintings were entered from 33 schools.

The paintings were judged in four groups, the best in each group wining a wormery for their school.

They and the runners up also won a pack of art materials and a Borough in Bloom certificate.

The award winners' paintings will go on display on the Borough in Bloom stand near the stage on Richmond Green at the Richmond May Fair on May 9.
