A ROTARY club has kept up its end of the bargain in helping Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates eradicate a killer disease.
The 35-strong Chislehurst Rotary Club agreed to help raise £500 each year for three years to help eradicate polio.
The club’s target was set after Bill Gates contributed $100 million dollars from his foundation to fight the disease, on the understanding Rotary International would match his donation over three years.
President of Chislehurst Rotary Club Harold Smith said: “This killer disease, carried by a virus, can easily spread in communities where children are not immunised.
“Thanks to the generosity of a local anonymous donor giving £500, plus £500 from Chislehurst Rotary, the club’s polio target has been exceeded.”
“We are confident we will continue to hit our £500 target in the next two years.”
