London Marathon spectators should keep their eyes peeled for one runner who hopes to beat a world record dressed as a giant carrot.

Bob Prothero will be running the 26.2mile race in the vegetable costume in aid of charity WaterAid.

The IT project manager for Kodak wants to raise £2,000 for the charity which works with some of the world’s poorest people help them get access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

He said: “I’ll be dressed up as a giant carrot in order to attempt the record for ‘fastest vegetable to run a marathon’. The record attempt has been a great boost for sponsorship so far, with several people promising to double their donations if I beat the fastest time – which currently stands at five hours.”

“I decided to support WaterAid because we all need safe, clean water to survive. In a world where there is so much extravagance and waste, to deny anyone of this basic human right is outrageous.

"If I can provide a laugh for the supporters around the course, come away with a World Record and raise money to help those in need, I'll have had a great day.”
