Pain caused man to take fatal overdose

11:19am Tuesday 4th November 2003

A FORKLIFT driver’s pain was so overwhelming he took a fatal overdose despite having a great love for his young son.

Paul Dossor, 38, of Etta Street, Deptford, was found dead in his boxer shorts in front of the television on August 10.

He was surrounded by empty sachets of pills and an empty bottle of vodka, an inquest at Southwark Coroner’s Court on October 30 heard.

Pathologist Peter Jerreat said the cause of Mr Dossor’s death was codeine intoxication and added the levels in the blood meant around 50 to 60 tablets had been consumed.

Mr Dosser’s neighbour, Angela Batchelor, said she was concerned she had not seen him for several days, especially over the weekend when he would usually be spending time with his young son.

She said: “He loved him so much and I started to wonder where he was when I didn’t see him.” PC Roland Colohan, from Deptford police station, found Mr Dossor’s body in the living room.

Gregory Dossor, one of his three brothers, who attended the hearing, said his brother suffered sciatica and battled with the pain.

He said: “He refers to the physical pain in the two suicide notes found in the flat. The pain was relentless and the painkillers didn’t seem to do that much.” Coroner Selena Lynch recorded that Mr Dossor killed himself.
