THE director of hit film 'Bend It Like Beckham' is shooting her latest movie in Chalfont St Peter this week.

Gurinder Chadha's new film 'It's A Wonderful Afterlife' is being filmed at a house in Joiners Lane in the village.

The likes of 'Heroes' star Sendhil Ramamurthy, Golden Globe winner Sally Hawkins, Jimi Mistry, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Zoe Wanamaker will be on set until Thursday for the Ealing studios-based project.

'It's A Wonderful Afterlife' tells the story of an Indian mother who is desperately trying to find a man to marry her daughter before she dies.

But many of the girl's suitors end up dying in “accidental” circumstances instead, in a film described as being a throwback to the traditional Ealing comedies.

The ghosts of the dead men then return to haunt the girl's mother as they cannot reach the afterlife until she gets married.

'It's A Wonderful Afterlife', billed as 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' meets 'Shaun of the Dead', is due for release in cinemas nationwide in April next year.

An insider said the filming location had been chosen after the director's brief was for a “well-to-do Gerrards Cross family”.
