A DRUNKEN tube passenger who racially abused station staff has been jailed for six weeks.

Luckasz Oleksik, 23, of St George's Road, Leyton, admitted racially aggravated threatening behaviour.

Olekslik approached the ticket barriers at Farringdon Tube station, in east London, but was so drunk he could barely stand up, City of Westminster Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday.

He then racially abused a female staff member after she told him he was not in a fit state to travel at about 7am on October 26 last year.

He picked up a yellow cone, and smashed it against a gate, shattering it.

British Transport Police (BTP) arrived at the scene, and arrested him.

PC Andrew Spiby, investigating officer, said: "Why Oleksik felt he had the right to use highly offensive racist language and threatening behaviour against staff who were simply doing their jobs is inconceivable.

"He became agitated after rightly being told he was in no fit state to travel and resorted to racial abuse and threats.

"His behaviour was aggressive and completely unacceptable and I hope the six-week prison sentence handed down to him represents some form of justice for his victims."

Aidan Harris, London Underground workplace violence unit manager, said: "Olesksik’s behaviour was not only offensive but also reckless. He was in such a state that he was clearly a danger to both himself and others.

"Our staff are simply trying to do their job and the sentencing handed down to him illustrates just how effective our efforts are to clamp down on such disorderly behaviour."

Olekslik was charged and was due to appear in court in December but failed to attend.

He was eventually arrested this month and pleaded guilty to two counts of racially aggravated threatening behaviour, to being drunk and disorderly and to causing criminal damage.

He was handed six weeks’ imprisonment for each charge of racially aggravated threatening behaviour, with the sentences to run concurrently.

No separate penalty was imposed for the charges of being drunk and disorderly or criminal damage.
