Praise for climate change film

A FILM on climate change released in cinemas this week is “one hundred times better” than previous productions, south Bucks environmentalists have said.

'The Age of Stupid' set a new world record on Sunday for the largest simultaneous première when it was shown in 65 different locations across Britain.

Featuring Hollywood star Pete Postlethwaite, 'The Age of Stupid' looks at the effects of climate change and hands out a stark warning on what could happen if action is not taken.

Mark Brown, chairman of Transition Towns High Wycombe, and Marlow 'carbon coach' Dave Hampton both said the film would have more of an impact than Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth'.

Mr Hampton – who helped get the film to première at the Maidenhead Odeon cinema – said: “I think it's 100 times better than 'An Inconvenient Truth', and I thought that was good.

“I don't think it's so much an eye-opener, it's more something we close our eyes to and need to be aware of.”

Speaking of the event at Maidenhead, he added: “I was very pleased with the show of hands at the end of people who would invite their friends to come along.

“It's fantastic we are talking about climate change to each other. We need to do it as a society and community and as individuals.

“If we can put a man on the moon, we can have a zero carbon society, no problem. We haven't got an alternative.”

Mr Brown of Transition Towns - a group that looks to tackle climate change in the High Wycombe area – said he thought the film was “extremely powerful” after watching the first showing at Maidenhead on Sunday.

He said: “It was very thought-provoking and quite an emotional film. It's a film that's quite frank in its discussion of the risk of climate change and it covers a vast number of topics.”

And he added: “We would love to have had a première in High Wycombe. Hopefully we will have the film here.”

The main première of the film was held in London's Leicester Square – and used just one per cent of the carbon emissions a normal Hollywood event does.

· 'The Age of Stupid' opens nationwide on Friday.

More brainwashing .
I can remember the (Climate experts )in the 1970s telling us that the world was cooling . Government/media brainwashing went was greater than now. Households were sent red stickers by the government to put on all light switches that said "SAVE IT" because we would run out of oil, coal, gas etc due to the cold weather that was coming . And just remember the (financial experts) got it completely wrong as well .
I don't trust these so called experts.
Can other readers remember these save it stickers please post your reply.

Doesn't Dave Hampton have money invested in this film?

It doesn't surprise me that Dave has 'praise' for the film, since he has money riding on it.

Yup.

Very proud to have 'backed' the film, as one of thousands of passion-driven small 'crowd funders' eg like CAT, the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.

Also very proud to have backed my well-researched beliefs, with a little cash - money where mouth is!

I am always at pains to mention this fact, but BFP omitted it from their report, as they do.

As well as this teeny vested interest in the film's success (e.g. I might get my money back one day, although even that's unlikely, so I don't think many IFAs would call it 'investing' in the usual sense:-)

...I also have a large vested interest in the film being successful. That way the kids get to get their future back.

Mr W on the other hand prefers live in the past, and in a dangerous fossil fantasy world, and keeps investing in fantasy fact-ball, to try and keep the old flagging failing flawed fossil economy afloat.

Give it up Bill.

Even the kids are onto you now.

And to bakerbill, you are dead right it is brainwashing, but have you considered it may not be brainwashing the way you are thinking. Did you ever consider that the Oil Industry might have been quite motivated to brainwash anyone or anything who got between them and their collossal profits.

It's tough one to face - but i'd recommend you see the film before you get too vocal - you might end up embarrased.
