VILLAGERS in Little Marlow say farewell to Judith and Brian Lee, the popular mine hosts of the Queen's Head in Pound Lane, who will call "last orders" on Sunday week. The couple have been in Little Marlow for eight years having arrived from Somerset. They are now looking forward to a well-earned retirement at their country cottage in Dorset.

"We will miss the super friends we have made here," emphasises Brian. "They are not just customers, they are friends."

Among the many memories the couple will take with them are the filming of the last Inspector Morse television drama and the Midsomer Murders episodes, plus, of course, Spice Girl Mel B's wedding at nearby St John the Baptist Church. "That proved to be a very, very busy lunchtime," reflects Brian.

Succeeding the Lees at the Queen's Head are Heidi and Andre from Surrey who start pulling pints on September 4.

BANK Holiday Monday will be Brian and Judith Lee's final village fete. This popular attraction, which has been going for over 20 years, starts at 2pm on the sports ground and there will be plenty to amuse young and old, with the resident Calypso Band and the Bourne End Rotary Club train among the attractions.

The public will also have an opportunity to examine the detailed plans for the Pavilion refurbishment which will be a feature of the Little Marlow Parish stand. Proceeds from last year's £2500 profit have been put aside for the refurbishment, and Little Marlow School and church also received funds.

MATTHEW and Dan Churchouse, who have both been County Music Scholars at the High Wycombe Music Centre, launch the second series of Music for a Sunday afternoon at All Saints Church this Sunday. Accompanied by their mother on piano, Matthew will play the Father Willis organ and Dan will be on double bass for a recital that will begin at 4pm and last about 45 minutes. Admission is free with a retiring collection in aid of the Church Outreach Fund. Afternoon tea will also be available in the church.

THE public are invited to the Shelley Theatre from 2.30pm on Saturday to view the winning exhibits in the Marlow & District Horticultural Society's Autumn Show. It is hoped that the mixture of warm sunshine and showers will have led to a bumper crop and a record number of entries.

The presentation of the prizes will be at 5pm and flowers and produce that have not been collected will the be auctioned for the society's funds.

MARLOW Town Band who visited Kelkheim, near Frankfurt, High Wycombe's twin town, last year, are currently playing host to members of the German band. on Saturday the FZH Blasor Chester, Kelkheim Homau musicians join forces with their Marlow counterparts to present a free concert at All Saints Church. It gets underway at 7pm.

ANNUAL Customer Open Forum at Court Garden Leisure Centre is set for Friday, September 28, at 8pm in the Jane Seymour Room. This is an opportunity to elect a new Customer Panel and also to air views about the running of the Leisure Centre.

THE charity polo match at West Wycombe Park on Sunday week, which was to raise funds for the South Bucks Day Hospice, has been cancelled.

WITH an initiative aimed at reducing the 206,000 tonnes of domestic waste created within the county, Wycombe Council, supported by the county council, is making home composting units available to local residents at special reduced prices. A 330 litre compost converter which has been reduced to £15 from £49.95, a saving of over 70 per cent, is just one of the five special units available. Three garden centres, at Booker, Bourne End and West Wycombe, are involved in the council's scheme and local residents can pick up a leaflet and special offer coupon from the Area Information Office in the High Street. The offer ends on September 30.

THE Chiltern Society is staging a Moonlight Walk next Friday. The four-mile stroll taking in the river paths, starts out from the car park at Mill End at 7.30pm.

BOB the Builder is coming to Marlow. He will be the star attraction at the Children's Happy hour being thrown by the Liberal Democrats in Higginson Park on Saturday, September 8, between 1 and 2pm. Ably supported by Maurice the Mayor and Ivor his deputy, Bob the Builder invites parents to bring along a camera to snap their youngsters enjoying themselves. There will be gifts for the under-tens.

MEMBERS of the Marlow Society enjoy one of the perks of membership on Sunday when, thanks to Mr and Mrs Fontannaz, they can enjoy a picnic and petanque at Asham Boathouse at Temple. Hopefully they will have better weather than has been experienced on the last two Sundays.

AS it is a Bank Holiday, matins will not be said at the Ledewich Chapel at Little Marlow Church this coming Monday. Matins will resume at 9.30am on Monday, September 3.

NEXT week is the last opportunity this year to catch up with Brer Rabbit Visits Africa and Shakespeare's The Tempest, this summer's offerings from the Puppet Theatre on the barge in Higginson Park. There will be no performance on Sunday but there will be a matinee at 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday and for the remainder of the week.
