RESIDENTS are being warned away from bogus health and slimming cures.

Lewisham Council is asking residents in the borough to watch out for advertisements claiming to sell products which cure illnesses, dysfunctions and malformations.

There have been reports of leaflets being posted through doors from traders claiming to have cures for baldness, heart disease, Parkinson's Disease and even cancer.

Cabinet member for customer services, Councillor Susan Wise, said: ”Lewisham takes a very poor view of people or businesses who make false claims, or trade in illegal or harmful products.

"We will take action to ensure that traders comply with safety regulations relating to cosmetics and health products.”

It is a criminal offence to claim that you have a cure for cancer.
