WOODFORD GRN: Bus and car crash head-on

A MAN was rushed to hospital last night with serious chest injuries after his car and a bus crashed head-on.

Worried residents looked on as the 28-year-old had to be cut from the vehicle following the smash, which happened at around 5.50pm on Broadmead Road, Woodford Green.

The man's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police closed the road for over two hours while the wreckage was cleared, causing long tailbacks in the area.

The crash is the latest in a long list of accidents on the busy road this year.

A spokesowman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent an ambulance crew, a fast response vehicle, a duty service officer and the air ambulance road crew to the scene.

"A 28-year-old male was suffering with chest injuries and was taken to Whipps Cross hospital as a priority."

I do not know who is at fault here but as a regular bus user who clings on for dear life whilst feeling like I am in a tumble drier, I am not impressed with the general standard of driving by the average driver.

They regularly drive past compulsory stops, fail to stop on request and are regulary involved in accidents.

I visited a ward at Whipps X recently, where there was a man in his 70's who broke his back whilst a passenger on a bus and another in his 80's who broke a hip, both due to bad bus driver. Both men have since died! I wonder if any other contributors have similar stories?

Reg Varney died this week by the way. He was about 93 and used to be on that TV show 'On the buses'
'I hate you Butler' was one of the catch phrases that that Blakey used.

Bert may have gone off the point a bit here, but he does not talk drivel. Keep up the good work, Bert.
It was Khalid who did the drivel - whatever happened to him?

fortunately i don't need to use the buses locally, but in Central London, most would probably fail the driving test.
It wouldn't suprise me if the bus driver was swinging too wide around corners, cutting corners, straddling the centre line, or just generally speeding... but i can't also avoid from commenting on how poor the average driver on the roads is, so for all we know it could be car car driver's fault. Either way i think a severe shake up in driving tests is in order.
