Lyricist Tim Rice is first in to bat in a new series of celebrity local history lectures in Barnes.

Long-term Barnes resident, Sir Tim, author, radio personality, gameshow panelist and a renowned fan of cricket and P G Wodehouse, will speak to members of Barnes and Mortlake History Society about Barnes and beyond on November 5.

The 64-year-old awardwinning librettist has known the area since the 70s, having worked at the Olympic Studios in High Street, Barnes, when he and Andrew Lloyd Webber recorded Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.

The pair’s glittering career famously started with a short performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Colet Court School, Hammersmith.

Tickets for the event will be available at the first meeting of the society on September 18.
