What a mess our roads are! Travelling through London it is impossible to guarantee any time of arrival and traffic just keeps getting worse. Is the answer to increase the congestion charge? No. The answer is to improve still further public transport and get cars off of the road.

Also we need to limit the number driving in and around London. In Carshalton there are the beautiful ponds and the number of lorries that use it as a cut through from Croydon force the barriers down almost weekly and cars into the ponds.

When it comes to lorries, the stretch around the Clackett Lane service station is a nightmare particularly for foreign lorries coming out of the service centres. Left hand drive exiting on to the slip road and then on the motorway sees so many near misses and sadly some real accidents. All lorry drivers should be tested in this country before they can work – at least then we would have some idea as to who they are and where they can be contacted.

So we have had the A levels and now the GCSEs and someone has said that five good passes are what business wants. Five good GSCE just about gives you the opportunity to enter the employment race by going on to A levels. The gap for those who are disenfranchised for whatever method by higher education is just getting bigger and bigger.

Every part of London is now becoming zoned for the safer neighbour schemes. So we now have safer neighbourhood scheme, community policemen/women (I think one and the same, parks police, road traffic officers who patrol the motorways – what happened to the real policemen? Is it an urban myth that now they are so oversubscribed that they will take only those who reflect a minority and not those who are actually good at the job?
