With exam season fast approaching, it is easy to get overwhelmed and start to bring out the procrastination habits. You may feel as though you are the only one feeling this way and you are falling behind your peers, but I promise you these are widespread thoughts and feelings at the moment. It can be hard to know where to start, your school may try to help you with this, however sometimes it is best to hear from someone who is going through it as well and has experience with these specific feelings. So, here are some techniques and ways to deal with exam stress and overwhelm that have personally helped me.

1. Having frequent breaks: you may think that you need to rush your revision and can’t take a break or pause, but actually breaks are extremely beneficial, and they can allow some of that stress to ease. Personally, I recommend taking 5-15 minute breaks every hour, and after 1 or 2 of these hour sessions, changing up your subject so you don’t get too bored and begin to procrastinate and give up.

2. Planning something into your day that you can look forward to. It doesn’t have to be anything massive; it could be a walk with your dog, or watching your favourite movie, having a relaxing bath or seeing a friend. This will help motivate you during the day as you are working towards that goal of being able to do something you enjoy.

3. Moving around and changing your work environment. Sometimes you can be sat at your desk for the whole day and by the end you are tired and bored from staring at the same items and sitting still. It is important to have a change of scene every once in a while, for example let's say for each new subject you change rooms in the house, even working in the garden if its nice weather. This can help you to feel less drained and prevent those procrastination thoughts creeping back in.

4. Lastly, getting someone else to test you can be a great help. If you are being actively tested this is great for memory recall, and the person who is testing you can help you and give you hints rather than just telling you the answer. This can be anyone from your friends to your family or even your neighbour!

I hope this is helpful, I know how stressful exam season can be. I’m sure you will all do amazingly, good luck!
