A total of 14 people have been charged with an alleged £2.2 million conspiracy to steal from cash machines after dawn raids across east London.

The 13 men and one woman were arrested as part of Operation Flatline which investigates cash machines thefts at railway stations, service stations and 'drive through' restaurants across Britain.

"The total loss for this type of offending over the past 18 months is believed to be in excess of £2.2 million," said Detective Sergeant Paddy Kerr of the British Transport Police.

Facing conspiracy charges include Anthony Townsend, 28, from Canning Town, two men from Leyton, Kelly Rowland, 30, and Trevor Glover, 32, seven men from Walthamstow, Ricky Mayo, 26, Christopher Skuce, 28, Craig Robinson, 24, Danny Dempsey, 40, Tommy Williams, 28, Jason Worsley, 36, and Ricky Cornwell, 20, and two men from Chingford, Shannon Nortcliffe, 23, and James Skuce, 29.

A man and woman from Purfleet in south Essex, Richard Billington, 27, and Tina Williams, 26, also face similar charges.

All 14 have been bailed to appear before City of Westminster magistrates on August 7.
