Climate change is a hugely contentious issue globally, with the West and its youth leading “frantic” calls to stop all oil and gas drilling, and to lead the charge towards renewable energy resources. Yet the hypocrisy of the youth nowadays, many of whom are vegan despite eating food produced on plantations where insects and animals are killed, should not be ignored.

Since the 1970s scientists have been issuing stark warnings about a potential climate crisis  that could result in the extinction of humanity. Young people seem to have jumped onto the idea, claiming that it is their future and that it is not for adults to decide. The challenge with this is that whatever scientists say, we are cajoled into automatically accepting their arguments and to pay no heed as to whether they could be wrong.

With less than 1% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions, having cut emissions by a third, there is minimal meaningfulness  for the UK to go even “greener”. Countries such as China emit 28% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and continue to add coal fired power stations on an unparalleled scale. Greta Thunberg was asked last year why she only protested against western energy and not Russian energy or OPEC Energy, and when asked to condemn them, had no answer.

The last warm age occurred about 129,000 to 116,000 years ago, and according to the website Climate.gov, warm periods occur every 100,000 years and therefore another warm period is likely. By 2100, it is estimated that the earth will be 2.4 degrees Celsius warmer and according to research, the Earth during warm periods has warmed between 3 to 8 degrees Celsius. Any forthcoming increase in global temperatures is therefore likely to be less likely than previously experienced on Earth and humanity has survived the more extreme temperature rises.

Many scientists have claimed other processes such as evolution have occurred by chance – could this also be another scientific “chance” process – it just so happens to be that the Earth is warming at the same time we are burning more things?
