John Bird writes after seeing John Ayres' 1943 photograph on June 20 of 144 ATC Squadron ATC Regiment, based at Gainsborough School, Richmond.

John, who has just completed his year as president of the Kingston upon Thames Probus Club, writes: "My service with the ATC stands out most clearly and I recognise Flight Lieutenant Thorneloe who was the Commanding Officer of the Squadron when I was a member in 1944/45. My attachment was in 1944 and those in the photograph were a year beforehand and thus, apart from the CO I find it hard to recognise anyone.

It would be wonderful if it were possible to make contact again with some of those shown in the attached photograph. The names of my confederates in the photo are left to right: Russell, Dunning, Draper, Butterfield, myself(sergeant), Viger, Hatch, Nash, Elgar, Gatsky, Sansom, Atkinson, Lewis, Hitch and Whitbey.

"I was born in Richmond. Since then, having been a chief administrative officer at the Kingston College of Further Education for 20 years I shared, after retirement', the ownership of a small microfilm company on the Barwell Estate opposite the World of Adventures and became a member of the Kingston Chamber of Commerce, then its president in the early 1990s."
