International Women’s Day is annually celebrated on the 8th of March globally and was established so women could celebrate the achievements of women throughout history as well as seek gender equality.

In modern day, words such as: powerful, fierce, strong-willed and compassionate come to mind. After 100 years of women fighting for their rights and against the patriotic society by marching in parades, creating movements and more!

International Women’s Day is used to:

 - celebrate women's achievements

- educate and awareness raise for women's equality

- call for positive change advancing women

- lobby for accelerated gender parity

- fundraise for female-focused charities

I interviewed a young woman, asking the question “What does it mean to be a woman?”

Siânna, age 15, stated “Being a woman in today's society only emphasises the strength of a man. As women, we are  seen as an object up to mens use whenever they please. Women are seen as something to rely on and nothing more, something to talk to when indeed of support and nothing more. Of course any woman can be a source of support but, the constant reinforcement of belittling women to only have emotional intelligence, diminishes other roles women can be. This is because all these ‘roles’ are taken up by men, men who refuse to believe or accept the fact that women are talented to do much more than provide help which only satisfies man's needs. Women can be as strong and as smart as men and even more, yet we are pushed back in our society to remain in the shadows. Even Though women can even create and bare life, we are still seen as weak. Highlighting these issues in our sexist society is either never taken seriously or is seen as complaining. It is a never ending battle of chasing after women's rights and approval of men.”
