2023. A new year. A new me.

This is said every 1st of January all around the world, but what really changes?

Is it your mindset, drive or does nothing ever change and you just feel obligated to try become a different person.

New year’s resolutions can be a great thing to get into. They can help you improve your wellbeing by taking care of yourself more or help you improve others wellbeing by choosing a resolution which impacts the people around you.

It’s estimated that over 50% of the UK population will be setting resolutions. This may seem like a positive and for some people it will be, but for others there could be downsides. Lexie Doherty said her resolution will be to revise harder and improve her grades, but where will this drive and determination come from to power her through this next year with this mindset?

Resolutions are easier said than done. One may think that they want to try a new activity or face a fear but it takes a lot more to change than a blunt decision. The expectation to start a new year differently really degrades the year you just had and helps you forget all your achievements and successes and makes you only focus on the aspects of your life which need perfecting. As we go through into the next year, we should be reflecting on how well the last year has been on us and how we have grown into better people. Not shaming ourselves and wiping all our hard work away.

If setting a resolution, remember to look back on the past year and be kind to yourself.
