Voters have until 10pm to take part in today's London Mayoral election.

To help you make up your mind we asked four of the candidates why they should get your vote.

Here are their responses.

Sian Berry (Green)

I'm running for Mayor, and for the London Assembly, and I want to give you a good reason to vote for me.

I'm realistic about my chances of replacing Ken Livingstone after May 1. But there is a pressing reason to vote for me with your first vote, and that's to stop the BNP claiming fourth place. You can then use your second vote to choose between Ken and Boris. If, like me, you want to stop Boris Johnson, give your second to Ken.

It's in the assembly election that I'm likely to win. Polling and recent council results show the Greens have a good chance of doubling our numbers in City Hall, which would mean electing me as the fourth Green member.

Over the last four years, Green members Darren Johnson and Jenny Jones have had a casting vote over the Mayor's budget and have used this to fight poverty wages and triple the cycling budget. Compared with the Lib Dems or the Tories, Greens have been the most effective members of the assembly.

With four Greens, we'll be able to deliver my flagship policy, to give every Londoner free insulation. So please, cast a vote for a greener, more affordable London. Vote Sian one and Ken two and then vote Green on the peach ballot paper to elect me to the assembly. Thank you.

Ken Livingstone (Labour)

Running London is not a joke. Whoever is elected will take decisions affecting the lives of 7.5 million people. My policies have helped make London a successful city. Our community relations are among the best in the world and the number of racist attacks has halved in eight years.

There are some key questions readers should ask: Who will keep London's economy moving ahead? I will. Having Boris Johnson as Mayor would undermine the confidence of businesses that want to invest and provide jobs for Londoners.

In the fight against crime will Ealing residents have a Mayor who has already put 239 more police on the beat in Ealing and will put 1,000 more police on the streets in London in the next year? With me they will. Under Boris Johnson they won't. As a Tory MP he actually voted against the automatic five year prison sentence for carrying a gun.

The next Mayor will either be Boris Johnson or me. Running London is a serious job and Boris Johnson has never run anything. His inexperience and incompetence could cost Londoners dear. I have the experience and determination to make sure that the Mayor's big responsibilities are run properly.

Boris Johnson (Conservative)

During the campaign I have been out every day pounding the pavements, listening to Londoners. Today you should concentrate on the simple choice that is before you; four more years of arrogance, waste and cronyism from Ken Livingstone, or a new era of fresh thinking from a Conservative administration at City Hall.

If I am elected, I will chair the Metropolitan Police Authority to start driving down crime in the capital and will work to cut red tape and get more police officers on our streets, buses and station platforms. I will reform the Congestion Charge and make it fairer and flexible. I will protect our precious green spaces. I will axe Ken Livingstone's planned closures of ticket offices at outer London train stations.

But I can only make these changes with your support. Today you have the opportunity to have your say on how London is run, and you won't have another chance to do so for four years. So please, if you want a change for the better in London, come out and back me and the Conservatives.

Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrats)

Londoners face a real dilemma on May 1. Ken has proved he is not fit to be our Mayor; Boris has never done anything to prove he is fit to be Mayor.

I spent 30 years on the beat walking the streets of London. I managed budgets of tens of millions of pounds, leading teams of more than 20,000 police officers.

I'm not a career politician like Ken and Boris. I've spent my life delivering public services for Londoners. London needs a Mayor with serious solutions for the practical problems. I will work to restore the trust between police and the public by making local commanders act on residents' priorities. If I cannot cut crime by 20 per cent in four years, then I will not stand for re-election.

Planning guidelines will ensure open spaces and diverse natural habitats are not built over. Instead, sites such as the 7,000 hectares of publicly-owned, unused brownfield land will be used to build affordable properties.

A vote for me says "I agree Brian Paddick is the best candidate". It says "I want a serious alternative to Ken and Boris". Vote Liberal Democrat on May 1.
