Surrey residents are warned to be aware of bogus tradesmen calling at their homes to sell trays of fish for up to £1,000.
The salesmen, who turn up in unmarked cars, have charged one Epsom woman £980 for 32 small packs of fish, a reduced price from the £3000 they first attempted to charge.
Another elderly couple were also conned into paying £80 cash for 10 small packs, said Surrey County Council Trading Standards.
Some of the rip-off tactics used included pressuring customers into buying more than they could afford and lying about the types of fish on offer.
These sellers have targeted other areas in Surrey in the past including Thames Ditton.
Peter Denard, County Trading Standards Officer, said: "Don't be pressurised into buying something on the doorstep, just say no' and close the door."
