Festive fun at Bentley wood sixth form!

Bentley Wood High School sixth form students take pride in their charitable and caring nature and their constant enthusiasm to organise events in order to give back to the local community, especially during the festive season! This is a clear example of students demonstrating our CARE values. Throughout the month of December Bentley Wood sixth form students as well as staff have organised numerous fundraising events for charities as well as help bring festive cheer to the most vulnerable in our community. One event that took place prior this week on the 13th of December organised by the Art department was the Santa Dash! This was a light-hearted event where student were sponsored to run around the field wearing Christmas inspired outfits including Santa hats and Santa beards! It was a splendid way to combine the festive cheer and Christmas spirit with charity, as it raised a large amount of money. This event was held for St Luke’s hospice, which is the charity selected by the Fire House, and the money raised was to help aid and fund the wonderful and remarkable work that this hospice does within our local community. This hospice was chosen by the Fire

House due to their outstanding efforts in helping families of those who have sick members and are unable and struggle to take care of them and so need the help of experts to do so which is the role the carers in St Luke’s take on.

The second event that was organised by the sixth form was the “Christmas Carols” this event was organised to bring the festive spirit to Woodland Care Home which is a local care home situated in Stanmore. This event was used to comfort the elderly and reassure that they have the support of the local community, as they may have struggled to find a sense of community and collectiveness over the course of the pandemic due to covid restriction refraining their family members and friends to visit leading them to feel isolated and alone. This was a great and enjoyable event that allowed a group of sixth formers to go to Woodland Care home and sing Christmas Carols to the residence allowing them to feel a sense of family, community and most importantly Christmas spirit. It was a great way of demonstrating and showing the care that Bentley Wood has for the elderly, within our local community. Moreover, it was a light-hearted and enjoyable way to bring a stressful and hectic term to an end!
