School scoops grant for butterfly garden

PUPILS at a Richmond primary school got a visit from their local MP after winning a top prize to fund improvement of their school grounds.

The Archdeacon Cambridge primary school won £1,000 in the 2002 London Electricity School Grounds Awards.

Last week they had a visit from MP for Twickenham, Dr Vincent Cable who handed over their prize cheque for the redevelopment of their playground.

The Archdeacon Cambridge will use the award to create a butterfly and bee area for their wildlife garden, to help the teaching of science and a pergola to create shade and shelter in the junior playground.

Their headteacher Graham Marriner said: "We are all very delighted to have been successful. This will provide us with a great incentive to progress with our project. It will make such a difference for the school."
