Police will tackle a gruelling mountaineering challenge to support former officers and members of the public battling mental health issues.
Members of Haringey Police will take on the Three Peaks challenge on September 30, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales respectively - within 24 hours.
Citing the effect of mental health issues on both residents and the police, the 30-strong team have chosen two beneficiaries which provide support to those affected.
The Police Dependants’ Trust provides both financial and emotional support for those harmed on duty while Mind in Haringey provides information, advice and support to people affected by mental health problems.
Gill Scott-Moore, chief executive of the Police Dependants’ Trust, said: “We have seen a significant increase in the number of serving and former personnel carrying the physical and mental scars of frontline policing, which means that right now we are helping more colleagues in need than ever before.”
Inspector Victoria Kneale said that the team wanted to highlight the effect that the job had on the mental health of police officers.
The team’s fundraising goal is £5,000. To sponsor the team, visit https://www.justgiving.com/companyteams/ERPTB.
