A man has died after he crashed a car that had been stolen just 30 minutes earlier.

Police were called to a collision between a Suzuki Jimny Adventure and a BMW in The Ridgeway, near Potters Bar, on Monday September 10.

The Suzuki driver, a 47-year-old man, died at the scene of the crash, which happened at around 10am. His next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination gave the provisional cause of death as multiple injuries.

The driver of the BMW was airlifted to hospital with head injuries. He is in a serious condition but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the fatal crash.

Hertfordshire Constabulary has confirmed that the Suzuki was stolen from near Borehamwood just half an hour before the crash happened.

Police received a report that a woman was forced from her vehicle in Well End Road at 9.29am. They also received two further reports in the same morning which police are linking to the same suspect.

A car was snatched from a driveway in Ripon Way, Borehamwood, at 9.13am.

At 9.22am, officers were called to Earls Lane in South Mimms, where a man stopped a car and asked the female driver for directions before he drove his car at hers. The woman was not injured.

No arrests have been made.
