Residents have expressed concern after reports of a youth fight in the street in Thames Ditton near Esher College at around 3.30pm yesterday (September 17).

Surrey Police are investigating, after witnesses described a group of around 15 males attacking another male and leaving him with injuries to his head in Weston Green Road.

There is no description of the suspects but some of them were reported to be carrying weapons.

Surrey Police said the victim has not been located and enquiries remain ongoing to identify him. The man, who is described as Asian and of a large build, said he did not want to take the matter any further.

Officers attended the incident and carried out a number of enquiries, during which it emerged that a man had been punched in the face, suffering a swollen left eye and a cut to his cheek. Surrey Police carried out a thorough search of the area but were unable to locate any of those involved in the altercation.

Esher College released a statement regarding the incident to reassure residents and local families.

The statement read: "The colleges shares the concern of local residents over yesterday’s incident in the vicinity of the college. We have been liaising with the police and they have informed us that a group of youths, with no connection to the college, were responsible.

"The police have emphasised that there is no evidence to suggest that knives were involved, contrary to some reports, but the incident is obviously still a cause for concern.

"We would like to assure students and parents that the safety of our students is our prime concern. We are also committed to maintaining a harmonious and peaceful local community. It is clear that we should all be vigilant and report any further unacceptable behaviour swiftly."
