Battersea Art Centre’s grand hall is reopening in September after it was destroyed in the 2015 fire.

The back of the building was destroyed, when the roof of the grand hall went on fire. The back of the building was destroyed in the 2015 fire.

Lost to the fire, Gecko's Missing will return to finish its run in the newly restored Grand Hall at the reopening on September 6.

David Jubb, director and CEO said: “We are glad to see the art centre reopen. Luckily, with the great work of the 80 fire fighters, not only was the front of the building saved but they also worked with us to make sure important historical parts of the building survived.

“We have spent the last three years rebuilding it brick by brick, which would not have been possible without the help and support local people and businesses. We are extremely thankful for their support through this touch period.”

Mr Jubb said over 6,000 people helped support the arts centre over the last three years. To thank them they are hosting ten Phoenix events and inviting people to them.

“We couldn’t thank them in one event because we don’t have the capacity but over the ten events we are hoping they can come and see the newly renovated building. We are also giving away 2000 tickets to community groups and charities, who might not normally have access to the shows. The tickets will either be £1 or free.”

Phoenix Season is named so because in the aftermath of the fire, artist Stella Duff created the hashtag #BACPheonix, to start talking about how the centre would rise from the ashes.

It started trending on Twitter and the centre decided to name their first season after this.

The new building includes a co-working space in the lower hall for start ups and businesses in the borough. This space will provide a place for creative businesses to work.

“The co-working space is called scratch hub, as an extension of the scratch project where artists can come and test out their skills in a creative space,” Mr Jubb added.

The Arts Centre will reopen on September 6.
