A politician has welcomed plans to plant thousands of trees at an Enfield park.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced that 5,000 trees will go up at Montagu Recreation Ground in Enfield as part of a £1.5 million woodland fund.
More than 40,000 new trees will be planted in parks, playgrounds and housing estates as part of Mr Khan’s ambition to make London a National Park City.
London Assembly member for Enfield and Haringey, Joanne McCartney said: “Our green spaces are precious, enhancing the quality of life for local people and helping to mitigate the pressing issue of air pollution.
“So, the planting of these new trees will provide a significant boost for our community, and a step forward in making London the world’s first National Park City.”
The projects are being funded by the Community Tree Planting Grants as part of the Mayor’s Greener City Fund.
