A big swastika symbol has been scrawled onto a pavement in Abbey Wood.

Willam Peters Down stumbled across the Nazi sign today (August 16) by the car wash in Harrow Manorway.

He posted on the What’s New In SE2 Facebook page saying: “Is this really what we want to have in Abbey Wood.

“Come on people why would you do this it’s just wrong.”

Speaking to News Shopper afterwards he said: “It can be seen two ways so it doesn’t really bother me as I know that it was probably some kids mucking around.

“If I was to find more of them I would be angry that someone would put something like that in this day and age where everyone is welcome.”

Councillor for Thamesmead East, Danny Hackett, has asked for the graffiti to be removed immediately.

“Whilst I hope this specific incident is down to children who are yet to be educated about the evil past behind the swastika symbol, it fills me with sadness to see it emblazoned on our streets," he said.

"So many people made the ultimate sacrifice to fight the horrors of Nazi Germany, the swastika still brings pain to millions around the world - especially those in the Jewish community. It has no place on our society.

"I would urge all members of the public to remain vigilant and report any sightings and information to the police.”

One social media user suggested two more of the hate symbols have been scrawled onto the wall at the Bexleyheath Asda.
