SCIENCE student Jowi Guillen, who hails from West Drayton, has received nearly £2,000 towards her animal-free medical research into mouth cancer this summer.
She aims to develop a model for study that does not involve any animal testing.
The project is being funded by Animal Free Research UK. Jowi’s project on mouth cancer, hosted at Sheffield University, was selected for its potential to help replace the use of mice and hamsters who are used in similar experiments.

This research forms part of a larger project from the charity, which is funding 14 more students carrying out compassionate research across the country.
It could help replace experiments on mice and hamsters which involves growing painful tumours in their mouths.
