A woman has been shamed by a 'friend' on Mumsnet for letting her four-year-old have sips of her wine.

The woman said she was disgusted that her "so called friend" has let her young daughter sip some of her wine, after begging to try it.

We asked the Shopper readers what they thought - Is it ok to let a child try alcohol?

Becky Willis said: "I think the poll should be ‘Is it ok to shame a friend?’ Their child, their choice!"

Daniel Tyler Parks said: "What the hells the issue if it's a few sips? I used to try and take my dad's beer as a kid till he made me actually drink it! Still can't stand the stuff to this day...I don't even drink really so anyone that says this encourages drinking at a young age is talking b*******."

Sean Ash said: "I voted absolutely not however, I don’t think it needs to be such a big thing either. My dad used to give me sips of his Stella as a joke and now I can’t stand alcohol. It does have positive effects. Unlike others who have it restricted from them and then when they finally get it, they become horrible alcoholic selfish bastards who end up costing the state a hell of a lot of money."

Johnny Higgs said: "Didn’t parents used to give children whiskey when teething to numb the gums? I tried some alcohol as a kid and didn’t turn into a raving alcoholic."

John Spooner said: "They are given alcohol in church when baptised. So do we condemn the vicar!! Get a life."

Christina Victoria Brydon said: "Lol as a kid I ran off with a beer, dam my kids used to run off with my drinks fizzy or juice it didn’t matter as they wanted to try what a mouthful gonna do."
