Patients at a doctor's surgery in Belvedere have been assured they will have full access to healthcare provisions after the centre closes.

Cairngall Medical Centre will stop offering GP services next March, according to a letter sent to patients.

After one of its doctors stopped providing services in January of this year, a temporary practice provided by Belvedere Medical Centre was put in place at Cairngall.

It was intended for GP services to continue long-term, but the landlord of the site did not commit to this proposal.

As a result, it was announced the practice will stop offering GP services from next March.

Some patients have expressed concerns about where they will go after the GP practice closes, but Bexley's Clinical Commissioning Group has promised they will be looked after.

A spokeswoman for the CCG said: “The contract for temporary (also known as caretaker) GP services at Cairngall Medical Practice has been extended for a further six months, until 31 March 2019.

"This means that a GP service will continue to be provided to patients at Cairngall as usual until 31 March 2019.

"Patients registered with Cairngall Medical Practice have been notified of this arrangement.

"NHS Bexley CCG plans to write to patients in December 2018 with an update on arrangements for GP services after 31 March 2019.

"NHS Bexley CCG’s primary care team will continue to keep an open dialogue with patients registered with Cairngall Medical Practice, in order to offer support where necessary.

"The team will also hold patient engagement events for registered patients.”

She added there is more than enough capacity to cater for the 9,000 people who use GP services at Cairngall.

According to the CCG, there is availability of 14,000 patients in the six GP surgeries within one mile of the centre, so every patient can find a new practice.
