A neighbour of an empty home in Orpington has said the property is “absolutely disgusting” as she demands action.

Amie Evans, 24, said she can no longer sit in her garden because of the “jungle” next to where she lives in Tillingbourne Green.

She told News Shopper: “The family who lived there have been gone for about three years.

“It is really bad. The garden is full with rats and the trees are overgrown. I can no longer sit in my garden.

“There is nothing anyone can do because it is private property.”

She said other residents of Tillingbourne Green are sick of the "eyesore" and said it is not fitting with the area.

Amie added: “It’s not fair on us neighbours who have to live next door. It is like a jungle as high as all my fencing.

“It is disgusting and dirty and the windows look like they are ready to cave in.”

Bromley Council has been contacted for advice on what residents should do when they want to complain about an untidy site.

The council has not responded directly but instead referred News Shopper to a previous example.

In June, the council took direct action after being made aware of an “out of control vegetation” and collapsed roof of a property near Bromley Common.

On this previous case in Lower Gravel Road, Councillor Alexa Michael said: “Bromley Council takes planning enforcement extremely seriously, whether it’s a developer in breach or an individual. Since the matter first came to our attention in 2014, we’ve tried to contact the owner many times to remedy the situation.

“Now S215 Untidy Site Notices have been issued to give them another chance to put things right. If they don’t comply, we could prosecute but now we also have the option of taking matters into our own hands to get the job done at the landowner’s expense.”
