A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault as bizarre footage has emerged of a fight outside Poundland in Bromley.

The footage appears to show two staff members taking on two other people in the town centre's Mall shopping promenade.

It is believed the altercation broke out after staff confronted a man who they believed had shoplifted from the store.

Staff told police one of their workers was pushed to the floor by the man when they stopped him.

A Met Police spokesman confirmed: "Police were called at approximately 18:25hrs on Friday, 13 July to commercial premises in The Mall, Bromley following reports of shoplifting.

"Officers attended and located one of the suspects nearby on Elmfield Road.

"The 37-year-old man was treated by officers for minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm and theft, and taken to a south London police station.

"Officers were informed that the man was with a group of people who attempted to leave the shop without paying for goods. When stopped by shop staff, the man pushed one of them to floor before assaulting a second.

"As the suspect continued the assault, the victims defended themselves.

"The shop workers were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

"There have been no further arrests and enquiries continue."
