A Woolwich pub landlady has defended her right not to let children in after an angry mother took to Facebook to complain.

On Saturday a woman posted in the Plumstead People group to express her dismay at the treatment she and her daughter received on Saturday.

The woman said that she went to the Lord Raglan pub in Burrage Road to meet her husband and father-in-law with her 14-month old daughter.

She said: “I was told children were not allowed (even though my daughter was fast asleep in her buggy) and told to move to the beer garden if I wanted to finish my drink.

“It's very hard to go out and do 'adult' things with your child, but being denigrated to a beer garden in the middle of the day when you're trying to spend the day with your father-in-law is just shameful. I just sat in the beer garden and cried!”

The landlady of the pub, Rosemary Lions, told News Shopper how distressed she was by this negative review and how upsetting it is that people can damn your business on Facebook.

She said: “I have been the licensee of this pub for 24 years and children are not licensed to be on the premises.”

Rosemary does however allow children in the pub garden during the summer.

She added: “Rules are rules and it has always been this way. This happened around 3pm on Saturday and then my daughter tells me that the Facebook post went up just a couple hours later.”

Many people commented on the post defending the pub's right to this rule, saying they have been regulars there for years and there are always other pubs to visit.

The rules of any pub are set at the discretion of the managers or owners. Has this happened to you? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook.
