A Merton theatre has received as massive boost towards its survival.

For 23 years the Colour House Children’s Theatre has produced family musicals every Saturday and Sunday.

Since achieving 'charitable status' nine years ago, the theatre has never received core funding and it relies entirely on box office takings.

In a statement by the theatre, this lack of funding was called a "tremendous challenge for a seventy seat venue."

But recently the Grade II listed building opened up its doors for the theatre's first ever gala night, where a big announcement was made.

"After years of relying solely on our box office takings with no core funding, we are pleased to have recognition from the local borough as we become one of the mayor of Merton’s official charities for 2018-19," a statement read.

But this wasn't the only news to share around.

The new children's theatre season lineup was announced with the 'Wizard of Oz', 'Jack and the Beanstalk', 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Alice in Wonderland' named on the list.
