A man arrested after the discovery of a woman’s body in Greenwich has been charged with murder today (June 24).

Gary Davies, 50, was arrested at an address in Tunnel Avenue where the woman’s body had been found in the back garden with stab wounds.

Met Police have confirmed today the woman who died was 56 years old and a post-mortem examination carried out this afternoon found the cause of death to be stab wounds to the back.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 11.30am on Saturday, June 23, to reports of a body found in the rear garden of a house in Tunnel Avenue, SE10.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended the location and found the body of a 56-year-old woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers believe they know the identity of the deceased and next of kin have been informed, but formal identification has not taken place.

“Although the incident is not thought to be domestic, detectives believe the deceased and the man charged were known to each other.”

Davies, whose address is also given as Tunnel Avenue, will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
