Richmond Station was closed for a large part of this afternoon with major disruption to rail services after a person was reportedly hit by a train.
People were asked to leave the station after noon today (June 23) due to emergency services having to deal with an “incident”.
Witnesses described seeing dozens of police as well as ambulances and the fire brigade swarm the station at around 1pm.
It has not officially been confirmed that a person was hit by a train but many of those at the station at the time have since taken to social media to express their condolences and shock.
Other initial rumours suggested a train may have been derailed, and some were told by police there had been a “platform incident”.
Dozens of train services were cancelled over the following hours as emergency services carried out their work.
As of 5pm, emergency services are understood to still be working at the scene, although many trains are now running on the line.
British Transport Police had not responded to the Richmond and Twickenham Times’ enquiry at the time of publishing.
