Residents of a Sidcup care home will be able to enjoy the summer in the best way - with a pint in the beer garden of their very own pub.

Sunrise care home, based in Frognal House, will be opening Gillies' Inn on July 11.

Named after Queen Mary's Hospital doctor Harold Gillies, the pub wants to celebrate the history of Sidcup.

Dr Gillies was recognised during his career for his work in plastic surgery - as he was instrumental in reconstruction operations on First World War soldiers.

Once opened, the pub will be open to residents and their families to enjoy a pint and the occasional hog roast. Staff at the care home will run the pub during planned events

The pub will host a quiz night on Mondays, a gentleman's club on Tuesdays and a happy hour on Fridays, as well as special events.

Drinks on offer will include beets, ales and ciders with themed drinks put on for different events.

Although it will not be open to punters at all times, the one-off events will be planned for the summer which will welcome everyone.

Rebecca Pearce, director of community relations at Sunrise of Frognal, said: “The idea came about as we wanted to celebrate the history of Frognal House somehow.

"Many residents used to visit local pubs, and still love to socialise and spend time with family and friends.

"The team thought an in-house pub would be a great way to encourage more residents to spend time together.

"Some residents used to work within the industry and one resident in particular used to be a publican, and ran a few pubs during her working life. This will bring back some wonderful memories.”

The grand opening will take place on Wednesday, July 11 at 3pm until 6pm.
