Who says cosy pubs are just for the winter?

The Prince of Wales in Barnet is a traditional country pub – but it’s in a busy high street. It is laid back, friendly and has a great vibe. What more could you want from a pub?

It serves classic dishes and old pub favourites, from fish finger sandwiches (£5.79) and southern fried chicken (£5.79) both served on artisan bread, to sausages and mash (£8.99) and roast lamb shank (£11.29).

But there’s also less traditional, more exotic choices like chicken & brie pie (£9.99) and grilled chicken and butternut squash linguine (£9.79.)

We had a tough choice picking between the starters – with mouth-watering choices like cheesy mushroom bruschetta (£4.79) and chicken and chorizo skewers (£4.79), it was a tough decision.

We eventually settled for an antipasti platter (£8.99), a selection of cured Italian meats with tomatoes, olives and a delicious herb homous which was the perfect blend of garlic and lemon.

Burgers are staple on every pub menu, but these are something special. You might expect to see options like Wagyu burgers on the menu at a swish establishment – but you can have one here at a reasonable £11.99.

I picked the 8oz rump steak (£10.99) medium rare and swapped out the chips for sweet potato fries (it’s one of your five-a-day, after all).

The meat was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce gave it an extra kick.

My friend had the Moroccan spiced lamb burger (£10.49) with a lemon and herb homous and could not find fault in anything.

We are carnivores, but don’t worry if you’re a vegetarian because the Prince of Wales has you covered. With exotic options like Mediterranean vegetable tart (£9.29) and asparagus and pea pasta (£9.29) you can’t go wrong.

We were full but could not resist desert. The carrot cake (£4.29) roulade was sweet, moist and the spices were not too overpowering. My friend picked the sticky toffee apple pudding with custard (£4.49) which was sweet and tasty.

To wash it all down, the pub has a great selection of ales, guest beers, spirits, cocktails and wine.

If you’re looking for somewhere to chill out, want a night out with friends or simply want to watch the World Cup in a fun environment, The Prince of Wales is for you.
