College students have come second in a national competition for their idea of a smart sole - which tracks your steps without you having to wear a wristband.

Barnet and Southgate College Business students were the runners up in the London Metropolitan University’s Big Idea 2018.

The team of four students designed the ‘Smart Sole’, a new type of wearable tech that can help someone exercise.

The sole is placed in your shoe and enables the user to calculate and track the number of steps they have taken.

The Barnet and Southgate College team were up against 20 other colleges from across the UK in the final.

The winning team was decided using a public online vote and announced on April 26 at a glittering ceremony at London’s Guildhall.

They will now receive the resources to make their product a reality, including free websites, business mentoring and internships.
