It turns out if you live in Thornton Heath then you have the best chance in the UK of striking it rich.

According to new research of more than 300,000 people who bet on the lottery, women named Claire and men named Barry aged 60+ and living in the Thornton Heath.

To find the towns and cities deemed the “luckiest,” the research by Lotto betting operator www.Lottoland.co.uk analysed a total of 633 UK towns and cities.

By dividing the amount of wins per stake, the Lottoland team were able to arrive at the ratio of wins per attempt and subsequently determine how lucky each of the towns and cities were.

Using this method Thornton Heath came out on top with a 0.7288 win ratio, beating out Bushey in Hertfordshire with 0.506.

“Let’s be honest, who doesn’t feel like winning the jackpot would be one of the best situations they could find themselves in," a Lottoland spokesman said.

"After trawling through the reams of information on previous winners from the past year, we’ve hopefully given players in the UK a little extra helping hand.

"If you happen to know a Claire or Barry aged 60 and over who live anywhere near Thornton Heath, it might be worth asking them to pick your numbers for you!”
