A new bar has opened in Surrey Street and it is even serving a bit of bubbly on tap.

Serving up a "constantly rotating range of craft beers and ciders" Art and Craft officially opened today (April 18) following a year-long refurbishment of the old Croydon Advertiser building.

But it isn't just the booze that owners Tom Talbot and Bradley Ridge hope will attract the customers.

The inside is scattered with pieces of art from Banksy Damien Hirst and Lucas Price.

Mr Talbot said he looked forward to seeing the bar thrive

“We all feel really privileged to have our first bar venture on Surrey Street – the UK’s oldest street market," he said.

"We’re synonymous at Art&Craft for quality and individuality and we want to support as many micro-breweries and individual artists as we can, while giving the community somewhere to mingle and enjoy some exciting art."

For customers who can’t drink in, 2-litre stee,l refillable ‘growler’ containers can even be bought so you can drink on the go

But if beer doesn't strike a chord, the bar will be selling anything from bubbles on tap and craft ciders, to "niche spirits and biodynamic and organic wines."

“We’ve been careful to preserve the integrity of this great old building and restore some of its original features, so we’re hoping the locals will love it as much as we do," Mr Talbot said.

"We look forward to welcoming them for the first time today.”

Art and Craft will open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-11pm, on Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 1am and on Sundays from noon until 8pm.
