Wallington could be getting a new batch of "luxury apartments."

Plans have been submitted to Sutton Council to build a five storey extension on top of the shops in 5-6 Ross Parade.

The developers believe the homes will make for a "very attractive" addition to the street.

"The new apartments have been designed in this manner to create the appearance of a weightless, water-like structure on top of the existing ‘heavy looking’ base of the first floor apartments and ground floor retail properties," a planning statement said.

"The glazing is designed to face different angles to provide interesting views up and down the street and not directly overlook opposing properties."

In total, 45 apartments would be built as part of the project, although the developers see no reason to add any parking to the area.

"Owing to the site’s location and very good local transport facilities," the statement said.

"The scheme proposes a car free development Given the immediate proximity to a good range of transport links and cycle routes, the proposed development is not expected to present a significant increase in on street parking."
